All About Mrs. AugustinAloha Friends
My name is Dawn Marie Lahela Augustin, and I am excited to be your child's Kindergarten teacher. This is my fourth year in Kindergarten at and I LOVE it! My teaching journey began in spring of 2008 when I enrolled at the University of Hawaii Maui College. During my course work here on Maui, I earned an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts with a focus in Hawaiian Studies. In the Spring of 2009 I began a new career as Hawaiian Studies Kumu for Makawao Elementary School. In 2011 I enrolled at the University of Hawaii at Manoa College of Education, in pursuit of a Bachelors in Elementary Education. Later that same year I joined the staff at Pomaika`i Elementary School where I taught Hawaiian Studies for the Fourth and First grades. In 2012 I was invited to participate in the study of Arts Integration along side the staff of Pomaika`i, at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. There I learned the practice of integrating the Fine Arts with all aspects of the Elementary Curriculum. That same year I began my student teaching with Pomaika`i Elementary School, while teaching Hawaiian Studies for Kindergarten and the First Grade. In 2013 I graduated Cum Laude from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelors in Elementary Education. Here on Maui I earned my first Certificate of Study Award from the Maui Arts and Cultural Center's Partners in Education with the Kennedy Center, Washington D.C., and in the Spring of 2015 I earned my third Certificate of Study Award. My recent endevour; Kamehamehameha School's A`o Kumu, professional development. A program committed to seeminglessly integrating culture based learning and 21st century skills. I will keep you posted as our Kindergarten Friends and I embark on this exciting journey! Out side of teaching, I am the wife of my best friend Randy Augustin, we are both Kama `aina to our island of Maui. Together we share four adult children, and four beautiful grand children. Teaching is my passion, but when I have down time, there is nothing more I love then spending time with my `ohana, my friends and enjoying our beautiful `aina, Maui! |
